Official opening of Abney Park Chapel

Phillip Glanville, the Hackney Mayor officially opened the Abney Park Chapel on Thursday 3rd August.

The mayor invited Rebecca Barrett from Heritage England, Councillor Feryal Demirci, along with Abney Park staff and volunteers to join him cutting the ribbon.

This follows stabilisation works recently completed funded by the council and Heritage England. The chapel has been on the buildings at risk register since 1991, longer than any building in Hackney, Further restoration work is being planned as part of a Heritage Lottery Bid being developed for the park.

The chapel is now able to be used again for organised events and concerts with a capacity of 60 people.
Corporate volunteers have laid paths around the chapel and local community volunteers have planted the area around the chapel with wild flowers. The Trust is doing its part by helping to equip the chapel with chairs, tables and a modular stage that can be put up for events when it's needed.
