The Origins of Abney Park walking tour for Hackney History Festival

  • Abney Park Trust Stoke Newington High Street London, England, N16 0LH United Kingdom (map)

Join us for a walking tour to hear about the Origins of Abney Park, with Alan Gartrell. This talk focuses on the appalling condition of Victorian churchyards (as mentioned in Dickens' Bleak House), The Magnificent Seven, non-conformists, the unique position of Abney Park and its opening ceremony, the avoidance of burial fees, as well as the contributions of George Collison. This event is part of Hackney History Festival.

Speaker Bio:
Alan Gartrell has given tours of Abney Park for many years now. His topics spread a huge range from the history of Hackney's MPs to Abney Park's missionary links. He very modestly says he is not a historian, just a few clicks ahead of everyone else on Wikipedia.

This tour is free - donations to support the work of Abney Park Trust are welcome.
